The movie tells the story of Mitsuha Asuha, a young office worker from the Tohoku region who has just moved to Tokyo to start her career. Mitsuha is a naive, beautiful girl with a tall, slender figure, carrying many hopes for her new life in Tokyo. She has a boyfriend of the same age back home, but unexpected challenges arise when she goes on a business trip with her much older male boss.

Due to a mistake in the arrangements, she has to share a room with her boss throughout the business trip. In an effort to fit in, Mitsuha tries to drink alcohol despite not liking it, and then, because of being too drunk, she falls into the hands of her boss. Mitsuha is both embarrassed and influenced by the maturity and charm of the older man.

While her heart still longs for her boyfriend back home, Mitsuha cannot resist the allure of her boss. It is the first time she experiences the collision of emotions and responsibilities, facing a mix of emotions in both her soul and body. The story is a tragedy as her trust and innocence are tested, putting her in difficult and heartbreaking situations.
